Political instability and deep poverty continue to limit economic and social development in Guinea-Bissau. The country has the world’s seventh-highest under-five mortality rate, and maternal mortality is also high. UNICEF works with the Government to support a variety of programes, including in health, nutrition and water, sanitation and hygiene.
