Film: Cameroon’s Response to ‘Born This Way’

New York, N.Y.  Director Shaun Kadlec and activist Bill Simbo talk about the challenges of filming Born This Way, a documentary which follows four gay and lesbian people in Cameroon and explores the difficulty of being queer in a country where homosexuality is illegal.

The NGO initiative entitled, Cameroon Empowerment Association for Outreach Programs, helped get the idea and promoted advocacy for the LGBTQ community in Cameroon. 

Bill Simbo is an openly gay man originally from Cameroon. He fled to the United Kingdom to seek asylum from the constant death threats he received in trying to assist and protect the LGBTQ community in his homeland.

Shaun Kadlec captured Bill’s story whole-hearty in Cameroon, through his film Kadlec wanted to bring to light that are currently being used against Bill and his counterparts. To hear more about Bill, Shaun and to see the full interview, please visit this link.
