Fleur De Vie Brings Holiday Cheer for Children in Haiti

New York, N.Y.  Fleur De Vie, a nonprofit organization that supports the initiatives of struggling nonprofit organizations returned this past holiday season from Haiti after spreading cheer to children in Haiti. The “True Noel” project was in conjunction with the Consulate General of Haiti in New York. The project started with a toy drive in New York at the beginning of the holiday season which collected donated toys that were then distributed to children in five schools and orphanages Haiti.

The “True Noel” program, which took place the week of December 22nd, included a five day visit to each school/orphanage where a team of Fleur De Vie volunteers led by founder/fashion designer Dayanne Danier and Martine Cauthen, member of the Consulate General of Haiti in New York, would spend the entire day at the designated school. The group started each morning by engaging the children in talks regarding what Christmas is all about, sang Christmas carols in multiple languages, and then moved on to arts and crafts with the children that included making Santa Claus faces and Christmas trees. Each afternoon closed with the distribution of toys and play time with the children.

“The holiday season is a time for giving and often children in Haiti don’t get that exposure. At the same time, when you watch a child hold on to the rest of his lunch and he tells you that he is saving the rest to give to his mom, it makes you realize that giving happens at all stages of life and making a child smile is worth all the energy a project like this take.” said Danier.

The True Noel Toy Drive was held at five different locations throughout Haiti and provided toys to 450 children. The schools included in the program were: Francoise Xavier Ecole Mix, Jeunesse Lumière Du Christ, Yes We Can For Progress, La Maison des Enfants du Village de l’Avenier/Institute Mixte de l’Avenier, Brebis de Saint Michel de l’Attalaye.

Sponsors included AmeriJet, Affinity Health Plan, Billionaires Row, Prestige Beer, Barbancourt Rum, Krik Krak Restaurant, Patricia Brintle, Julre Designs, DafNei.com, Amour Creole Magazine, New York Cruise Lines.
