Peter Pergolis was sworn in as District Governor for NYS District 20-R2 (Manhattan, The Bronx, Staten Island, Lower Westchester) at the Lions Chub International Convention in Fukuoka, Japan in 2016. While serving as District Governor, Peter emphasized service with an emphasis on Disaster and Humanitarian Relief. He and Joanne are bringing the same commitment to the “New York Global Leaders.”

In his year as District Governor, Peter started a program with Care For The Homeless to provide vision screening for children in their shelters and affiliated entities in New York City. He also spearheaded the NYS Mentoring Program and helped grow it throughout District 20R2. Peter and Joanne currently mentor children with disabilities who live in homeless shelters. As part of his Lions Centennial Campaign, Peter also helped raise about $3,000 to create a “Lions Den,” a reading room for the veterans. The den will also feature a cabinet to honor the five branches of USA military. A dedication ceremony will be held in the last week of May or early June 2018.

Peter told The Stewardship Report:

The mission statement of the International Association of Lions Clubs is ‘To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions Clubs;’ and our Vision Statement is ‘To be the global leader in community and humanitarian service.’

This is what I attempted to achieve as District Governor and what I will continue to strive for as the Vice President of the New York Global Leaders Lions Club!

A graduate of Fordham University, Peter is currently a Real Estate Salesperson licensed with Pergolis Swartz Associates. This follows his 45-year career in public accounting and auditing, beginning at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center as Corporate Director of Internal Audit, and ending as the Director of Internal Audit for Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University.

Peter and Joanne shared with The Stewardship Report:

What attract us to the New York Global Leaders Lions Club is the dynamic leadership and commitment to Service and Philanthropy of Lion President Jim Luce. Also the entire Club is dedicated to Service and their enthusiasm is contagious!

We hope to work with our new Club to grow membership and support young leaders to serve our District, as well as worldwide communities.  It is also important for us to embrace the great work of our new club in helping disadvantaged youth worldwide and to introduce to the Club other core pillars of Service championed by Lions Club International.
