In NYC, Marietta College Announces Generous Undergraduate Scholarship

New York, N.Y. On Tuesday, July 24, the James Jay Dudley Luce Foundation and Orphans International Worldwide successfully hosted the 19th Annual Summer Soirée at St. James Episcopal Church in Elmhurst, Queens. A bon-voyage potluck party for Young Global Leader participants of the J. The foundation was pleased to welcome Kelli Barnette, Vice President of Enrollment Management, and Emily Schuck, Assistant Vice President for Student Enrollment Success, as representatives of Marietta College. The college co-sponsored the event.

When asked about their experience at our Summer Soirée, Kelli shared:

Emily and I thoroughly enjoyed attending the annual potluck and getting to know the Young Global Leaders and Global Advisors of the foundation. Everyone made us feel so welcomed and included in the evening event, and we loved having the opportunity to be there! We are so grateful for the relationship we have with the James Jay Dudley Luce Foundation and look forward to finding even more opportunities to innovate through our partnership together.

Our foundation’s young global leaders and guests were very interested in hearing about the various scholarship opportunities for undergraduate students offered by Marietta College. Kelli and Emily also held an information booth to answer any questions regarding college admission and funding throughout the entire event.

Marietta College and the J. Luce Foundation have joined hands in many initiatives to support young global leadership. Dr. William Bauer, McCoy Professor of Education at Marietta College and Vice President of the foundation, spearheaded The Bauer Fund of the J. Luce Foundation to assist young adults with mental health issues and developmental delays. As of July 2018, the Fund has raised over $57,000 in endowment to provide microgrants, scholarships, stipends, and research funding annually.

In 2016, six Marietta College students were recognized as 2015-16 J. Luce Fellows. These include: Mandee Young (Advertising & Public Relations), Amanda Davis (International Business, Economics), Matthew Johnson (International Leadership Studies, Spanish), Rylie Wahl (Asian Studies), McKenzie Fleeman (Psychology), and Celeste Prince (International Leadership Studies & Psychology).

Every year, the foundation’s Executive Staff and Young Global Leaders travelled to attend the college’s McDonough Leadership Conference. The J. Luce Leadership Experience ’18 (Jakarta & North Sulawesi, Indonesia) may serve as a case study to present at the tenth annual conference on April 5-6, 2019, following the theme: “Leading Across Differences.”

Excitingly, plans are already set to involve Marietta College’s professors and students in our J. Luce Leadership Experience to Kingston, Jamaica in summer 2019. Email chloe@lucefoundation.org for more information.
