Peace, Compassion and The Dalai Lama’s NYC Birthday Extravaganza

New York, N.Y. If Dr. Kazuko Hillyer Tatsumura were a rolling stone, she would gather no moss.

Last month she was in India, and has made trips to Panama and German since. Next month she will be presenting at a conference in Spain. The founder of Gaia Holistic Foundation and a member of the Board of Directors of both the J. Luce Foundation and Orphans International Worldwide, she keeps herself busy. And she is not as young as she looks.

I was recently able to catch up with Dr. Kazuko (we call her affectionately) and interview her on her work to bring a birthday celebration each year to New York for her friend, His Holiness the (14th) Dalai Lama. She told me:

Last month, when I was at the Tibetan Buddhist Orphanage at Manjushree in the Himalayan mountain town of Tawang, five days travel from Dharamshala where the Dalai Lama lives, I felt an incredible sense of peace.

I was overwhelmed with joy to receive three days of great teaching from H.H. the Dalai Lama, and delighted to see the beautiful, happy children whom I have supported a long time. But I am always touched as I learn from these little buddhas more than I help…

On Thursday, July 6, 2017, we will all celebrate the 82nd birthday of his Holiness The Dalai Lama.

The whole world of compassionate people will gather together to wish and to celebrate his life. They will gather in the Himalayan Mountains near Tibet, and we at J.W. Marriott Essex House on Central Park South in New York City.

Dr. Kazuko continued:

Here in New York, we will synchronize our energy with His Holiness the Dalai Lama with his lifetime work for the World Peace through Compassion and send together this energy of Compassion and Prayer to the World to ease suffering for living souls on this planet.

I have helped Dr. Kazuko for the last two years in celebrating the birthday bash of His Holiness here in New York, always at Essex House. The event is always on July 6 – this year a Thursday.

Dinner seats are quickly selling out now, and I would encourage you not miss this important event. Please reserve your tickets now online ($162 only) here.

This year, we have great news: Besides our dinner featuring the World Peace Flag Ceremony, and Tibetan cultural events, we offer a VIP package that includes a VIP Champagne Reception in a private penthouse of Essex House overlooking Central Park.

The VIP Reception is sponsored by Plantin’ Seeds, Inc., whose mission is to raise awareness of the intersections we share (

The package is $900 and includes Gala Dinner in the Grand Ballroom. From this, $738 is tax-deductible. This VIP package funds education of needy Tibetan refugee children. Space is very limited so let us know right away if you can join.

Because Tibet has neither Embassy nor Mission in New York, this elegant at-cost event is a platform for all who respect the Dalai Lama and his efforts towards world peace to gather and pay their respects – and pray for his long life.

Many of us recall our other events at Essex House in celebration of His Holiness is 80th and 81st birthdays – our celebration in honor of H.H. 82nd birthday promises to be even more uplifting.

The Celebration of the 82nd Birthday if His Holiness the Dalai Lama for World Peace will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at J.W. Marriott Essex House at 160 Central Park South, New York City.

Sponsors include Gaia Holistic Foundation (Dr. Kazuko Tatsumura, chair), Interfaith Center of New York (James Morton, chair), The International Campaign for Tibet (Richard Gere, chair), The Tibet Fund (Mickey Lemle, chair), Tibet House U.S. (Dr. Robert Thurman, chair),  and Orphans International Worldwide (Jim Luce, chair).
