Young Global Leadership Summer Initiative 2018 Applications Closing

New York, N.Y.  The J. Luce Foundation Young Global Leadership Initiative Summer 2018 in New York City is accepting applications through May 15, 2018.

Applicants who wish to uplift humanity must reside in the NYC Tri-state, have international experience, and be between the ages of 18 and 24. They are chosen according to the criteria through Honor, Intelligence, Integrity, Benevolence, and Stewardship.

The J. Luce Foundation Young Global Leadership Initiative was launched in 2016 as an enhanced Internship Program to empower young global leaders wishing to better humanity to think, write, speak, organize, and utilize social media more effectively.

The initiative consists of a 200-hour commitment professional training and development. Graduates may apply to become Senior Young Global Leaders and mentor new YGLs. Many soon move into higher organizational positions such as Staff, Board, or Global Adviser.

This Initiative includes leadership opportunities such as the New York Global Leaders Lions Club (Facebook), the nascent J. Luce Foundation Toastmasters Club (Facebook), as well as our own Luce Leadership Experience focusing on international humanitarian trips to countries such as Greece, Indonesia and Jamaica. Many of these opportunities are available on a scholarship basis.

The Stewardship Report

The Stewardship Report on Connecting Goodness, began in April 2010, has averaged three new stories per day since 2015. With over 200 contributors, readership continues to grow each year – currently 7,500 per month.

Luce Leadership Experience (Greece, Indonesia, Jamaica)

Summer 2018 includes a return to Sulawesi, Indonesia – home of OIWW’s first orphanage – in conjunction with Queens-based, Indonesian-American organization known as “MAESA.” 2019 is also being planned with the Hon. Geneive Metzger Brown to Jamaica. Our first trip – J. Luce Foundation Leadership Experience: Hellas – took place in June 2017. See HuffPo piece and YouTube video.

Luce Leadership 2017: Hellas, Greece. Our first trip took place in June 2017 under the direction of Board member Georgia Nomikos and was an enormous success. Georgia is the C.E.O. of The Orpheus Luxury Collection. Georgia, Jim Luce, and videographer and Global Adviser Paul Sladkus chaperoned four Young Global Leaders: Tsewang “Keii” Lhamo, Israel Santana, Valentine Camaño, and Mathew Luce.

New York Global Leaders Lions Club

We officially launched our Lions club on February 5, 2016 after three years of discussions. The club has 29 members and holds elections each April. Past District Governor Peter Pergolis is joining our club and will serve as Vice President. We now have access to 5,600 Lions members in New York City/Long Island. Our annual Charter Night Dinner is held each year in conjunction with our YGL Summer Graduation. We are in the process of Twinning with a Lions Clubs chapter in Indonesia.

J. Luce Foundation Toastmasters Club

We began over the summer 2016 a Toastmasters International Chapter within the Foundation to impart public speaking and leadership skills with our interns and other young global leaders, using The Toastmasters Communications Basic Manual as a starting point.

Orphans International Worldwide

With the motto Raising Global Leaders, Orphans International is now eighteen years old (1999). OIW has worked to support orphaned children in Africa, Asia, and the Americas in a dozen countries. Today, its largest support to its college-aged graduates in Indonesia and the Dalai Lama’s orphanage in India. OIW was recognized globally for its work after the Tsunami of 2004 in Indonesia and Sri Lanka.

Chloe Hoang
A recent Honors graduate of The College of Wooster with a major in Communication Studies, Chloe is from Hanoi, Vietnam. She serves as the Executive Director at The J. Luce Foundation, managing leadership training and development programs for Young Global Leaders age 18-24. Recently, Chloe receives a full-tuition fellowship for her Master of International Affairs in International Non-Governmental Organization at Baruch College.
