New York Yankees Opening Day 2015: Video & Pics

New York, N.Y. As I drove to the stadium April 6th, in anticipation of Opening Day of the New York Yankees 2015 Season, I felt a bittersweet mixture of excitement and remorse, realizing that Derek Jeter would not be there. Like many fans, I always made sure to watch the Captain at bat and enjoyed chanting 'Jeter' with the crowd.
George Steinbrenner named Derek Jeter Captain of the New York Yankees in 2003. Mixed feelings prevailed since, although Jeter is now gone, Alex Rodriguez "A-Rod" has returned and played for the first time since September 2013 to a sold-out crowd. This was the seventh Opening Day at the new stadium, which opened in 2009, and announced the Yankee's 92nd season as a team.
The thunderous roar of over 48,000 fans cheered on the Yankees. A-Rod could not help but smile and tip his cap to fans due to the warm welcome he received. Some fans carried signs and wore t-shirts that said #forgive to show their support for him. Despite all the fanfare and cheering, the NY Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays in a 6-1 loss.
Fans were disappointed yet rejoiced in the fact that there are many more games to look forward to. The 2015 baseball season has only just begun.
